Residential Noise Assessments

For development sites located close to existing noise sources, or where developments are likely to introduce a new noise source to the environment, a noise assessment may be required.

Find out more below about how Evolved Acoustics can help you with your residential noise assessment.

When is a noise assessment required?

Noise Assessments (sometimes called Acoustic Surveys or Noise Impact Assessments) may be required for any of the following reasons:

  • To protect future occupants from an existing transportation noise source, for example road, rail or air traffic.

  • To protect future occupants from an existing industrial or commercial noise source, such as a factory or nightclub. This helps to prevent complaints being caused once residents move in.

  • To protect existing nearby receptors from new noise sources associated with the development, for example air conditioning units.

Residential Change-of-Use

We're experts in dealing with the unique acoustic challenges that come with residential change-of-use projects.

What's Involved?

A Noise Assessment is likely to include a survey of the existing ambient noise levels in the area using specialist sound monitoring equipment.

It will then also include calculations or modelling to determine noise levels affecting the development site. Finally, a report will be produced to inform the planning application, including details of any mitigation measures that may be required.

Evolved Acoustics has the expertise and experience to deliver robust assessments meeting Local Authority standards.
